summer solstice

This past Saturday I celebrated the summer solstice as well as the first birthdays of a few horses. It was a cute little gathering that involved bobbing for apples (the horses also participated in this activity), blowing bubbles, a scavenger hunt, eating cake and singing happy birthday to the three cutest horses ever. It was the most perfect summer night not only because it stayed light outside until 8:30, but the farm we were on was beyond beautiful. I was so mad that I didn't bring my actual camera because my iPhone couldn't possibly capture the beauty of my surroundings. But oh well, these pictures are still okay.
I hope you enjoyed the summer solstice (aka my new favorite day of the year)!!
Happy Monday! Have a great week!

picnicking with the beaches

(actual nectar sent from the Gods)
Committed to my bucket list, I spent the day at the beach with some friends, but before we hit the sand we had to stock up on food and I think we actually perfected the classic beach picnic. We bought:
a loaf of sourdough bread, guacamole, sliced turkey, berries, watermelon, snap pea crisps, some juice and a bottle of water.
I had never heard of guacamole on bread but my friend Ella suggested it and OMG! It was so yummy! We added some turkey on top of the guac and ate them like open-faced sandwiches. I really recommend guacamole on bread + turkey + the beach + your friends because it = a GREAT day!
BEST picnic ever!

the workout

What better way to spend a beautiful, perfect, L.A. summer day than a nice, rejuvenating hike up in Malibu that leads to a waterfall? Right? Right. That's exactly what my bestie and I were thinking! In a few short days this gal is leaving me for the summer so today was our last day to spend together (tear, tear, sniffle, sniffle) so we were determined to make the best out of the few hours we had. Excited for a day of adventure and fun we geared up in our bathing suits, Lulu's and Nike's and packed our backpacks with towels and sunscreen and headed off to to the Bu (does anyone ever call it that? no?  ok I totally agree…that's such a dumb nickname…obvi).
As we drove along the PCH sunglasses on, car roof off, the song Boom Clap blasting through the stereo, we began to second guess our hiking expedition and headed straight to lunch instead.
We pulled into the Malibu Pier parking lot and hiked down to the end of the pier towards Malibu Farm (we were speed walking because you know, food…so I'd say that the amount of calories we burned walking 500 feet would have been the same if we had actually gone on an actual hiking trail). Honestly, what could be more fun than a hike to a serene waterfall? A cardio intensive trek towards glorious food. Yeah, that's right.
I was very excited because I hadn't been to Malibu Farm until today, and have been wanting to go for the longest time. (literally every single girl I know has at least one Instagram picture of their food from this place, or at least their cup of watermelon juice in the mason jar that has the restaurant's logo on it…and as annoying as food/juice pictures are, I have to admit Malibu Farm pictures always look delicious)
I ordered the grilled cheese panini (but forgot to add the heirloom tomatoes! ugh how could I forget the tomatoes?!) and my friend ordered this healthy thing called salad…whatever that is…I wouldn't know.
But anyway…it was soooooooo good. All those Instagram pictures lived up to their virtual yumminess! I was throughly pleased with my cheesy goodness, and would definitely recommend to anyone hanging around Malibu to make a pit stop at Malibu Farm.
…….So yeah…. that was our workout for the day. Go us!

summer bucket list

(ignore the fact that I haven't written on this thing since February…What can I say, I'm a busy gal)
Annnyyyywaaaayyyyyyyyyy
IT'S FINALLY SUMMER!!
WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
The first thing I do when I get out of school is make a summer bucket list. I don't know why I keep making these lists because I usually only manage to check off about five goals but whatever, it's still a fun tradition.
If you're the kind of person who just stares at your bedroom wall during these long summer days you're in luck, for I am about to share my summer bucket list (and other fun summer activities)!

SUMMER BUCKET LIST 2014
1. Road trip with friends
2. Camping trip with friends
3. Make s'mores (this was a sad attempt at s'more cookies…Pinterest made it look so easy!)
4. Go to the beach (like a lot)
5. Read 10+ books (yeahhh this is totally not going to happen)
6. Do art: painting (oil  or water color), drawing, photography
7. Bake! (one summer I started my own cake business--Liza Cakes-- and made like $900.00. It was pretty sweet…haha get it? get my joke?)
8. Go on hikes/ wilderness adventures
9. Hold a watermelon eating contest
10. Exercise: swim/ run (I'm trying become a runner so I can join the cross country team next year, but it's not really happening for me…I'm bad a land sports)
11. Eat healthily (hahahahaha no…besides summer is a time to indulge in all the ice-cream and candy one could possibly imagine. Juice cleanse? I don't think so.)
12. Do some volunteer work
13. Movie marathon (suggestions welcome)
14. Write on this blog more
15. Teen Wolf marathon or Grey's Anatomy marathon
16. Visit some museums
17. Complete a DIY something
18. Build an epic sand castle (sorry for the extremely low quality of this photo. Also side note: I didn't even build this sand thingy, I just stood inside of it and had my picture taken)
19. Make a fort and decorate it with lights (it will look sooooo tumblr)
20. Make homemade ice cream (because ice cream is life)

HAPPY SUMMER!! LET'S MAKE THE MOST OF IT!!!
Wow that last line was probably the cheesiest thing I've ever said…..well this is embarrassing…
Ok bye!
